[Important News] Australia’s New Skills in Demand (SID) Visa Officially Launched

Australia officially implemented the new Skills in Demand (SID) visa on December 7, 2024, replacing the previous Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) 482 visa.


The new policy aims to address the talent shortage in the Australian labor market by streamlining the application process and offering a clear pathway to permanent residency. It creates a more efficient, demand-driven immigration system to meet the needs of critical industries.

Additionally, Australia has announced a new Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL), which replaces the outdated and rigid occupation list. This update expands the list from over 200 occupations to 456, covering more industries.

 

The SID Visa Has Three Application Streams


  1. Specialist Skills Stream

  • No age requirement

  • IELTS 5 or PTE 36

  • No CSOL list restriction, occupations from ANZSCO Groups 1, 2, 4, 5, 6

  • Salary requirement: ≥ $135,000 AUD

  • 1 year of full-time/part-time related work

  1. Labour Agreements Stream


 

Pathway to Permanent Residency


SID visa holders can apply for permanent residency through Employer-Sponsored Migration (TRT).


Eligibility Requirements:


  1. Must be under 45 years of age

  2. IELTS score of 6 in each band

  3. Must have worked for the same employer for 2 years, and the nominated occupation must align with the current visa
