Since taking office, Donald Trump has pushed forward a series of major reform measures on both domestic and international issues. During his campaign, Trump made numerous promises, and as the first 100 days have passed, there has been significant attention on whether he has fulfilled these commitments.

Russia-Ukraine Ceasefire: Stalemate in the Peace Agreement

Russia-Ukraine Ceasefire

During his campaign, Trump claimed that once elected, he would end the Russia-Ukraine war within 24 hours of taking office. However, the fighting has continued, and the ceasefire agreement remains deadlocked.

In February, when Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with Trump at the White House, they had a dispute. Trump criticized Zelensky for his stance on not relinquishing Crimea, which hindered progress in peace talks. The U.S. shifted its position, pressuring Ukraine to make concessions. As a result, the ceasefire agreement has remained on paper with no substantial progress. The relationship between the U.S. and Ukraine has also become increasingly tense due to these disagreements.

Tariff Policy: Economic Risks Amid Trade War

Trade War

One of the most closely watched issues recently is the so-called "reciprocal tariffs." Trump clearly stated during his campaign that he would address America's long-standing trade deficit and planned to impose comprehensive tariffs on the vast majority of imported goods. On April 2, Trump officially announced "reciprocal tariffs" on goods from multiple countries, with tariffs on Chinese products reaching as high as 145%. Such high tariffs have severely disrupted international trade relations.

On one hand, other countries are likely to retaliate, further worsening the global trade environment. On the other hand, the price increase of imported goods will be passed on to the domestic market, driving up prices and exacerbating inflation. Later, Trump announced a 90-day delay in implementing the tariffs, but the policy has been inconsistent: while he raised tariffs on tech products, he also withdrew some measures.

Additionally, Trump pressured the Federal Reserve to speed up interest rate cuts, but Chairman Jerome Powell did not respond. Trump initially threatened to fire Powell but later denied any such intention. These policy and statement flip-flops resulted in the worst performance of the U.S. stock market in the first 100 days of a new president’s term while also recording the largest single-day gain in history, indicating the significant impact of Trump's actions on the U.S. economy.

Immigration Policy: Unprecedented Immigration Measures

Immigration Policy

Immigration has always been a core issue of Trump’s campaign. He promised that, if elected, he would launch the largest deportation action in U.S. history. After taking office, Trump immediately ramped up efforts to crack down on illegal immigration, advocating for accelerated arrests, deportations, and returns. He even proposed sending illegal immigrants who could not be sent back to their home countries to third-party countries for detention, to save costs.

This policy also affected some legal visa holders, including international students and visiting scholars. Some people’s immigration records were unexpectedly deleted, resulting in visa cancellations and the risk of losing their legal status and being deported. In January 2025, Trump signed an executive order abolishing the "birthright citizenship" for children born in the U.S. to illegal immigrants and some temporary legal residents (such as holders of visas for students, work, or tourism).

In February of the same year, he announced the introduction of an immigration "golden visa" program, selling residency and work rights to wealthy foreigners for $5 million. This plan may replace the current EB-5 investment immigration program and aims to alleviate U.S. fiscal pressures.

Conclusion

In his first 100 days in office, Trump’s administration has introduced numerous policies that have sparked intense reactions both domestically and internationally. These policies include the unfulfilled ceasefire promise, tariff policies that have triggered a trade war, turmoil in financial markets, and controversial immigration measures. As these policies continue to unfold, they will have a lasting impact on U.S. domestic and foreign affairs, as well as the global political and economic landscape.
